Shrubs beneath a Queen Palm - Knowledgebase Question

I recently had a useful reply to a question I had about planting perennials beneath my Queen Palms. A further question, what shrubs would be suitable? The bed only extends out about 2 feet from the trunk, and I have pink oleanders in the rest of the bed. Someone suggested gingers or knockout Roses. What do you think? Thanks (yet again!)

Knockout Roses are good for full sun but ginger prefers shady conditions. Others to consider include Dwarf burford holly (Ilex cornuta rotunda burfordii), Dwarf pittosporum (Pittosporum tobira wheeleri), Heavenly Bamboo (Nandina: harbour dwarf, gulf stream, nana) and Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis).
