Patt, My wife noticed the plant you have posted on your April 8th Regional update, but she couldn't figure out what it was. Easy question is, what is the plant that you have displayed on your April 8th update? Thanks again. |
The photo is a weathered seed pod from a Chinese lantern plant (Physalis alkekengi). These vining plants grow along my split rail fence. In the summer they have bright orange balloon like pods (hence the name Chinese lantern). Many gardeners harvest them for fall season decorations. I just leave mine alone until I prune the plants back in the spring. As you can tell from the photo, the outer balloon weathered away in an interesting manner and we were left with a bright orange seed in a heart shaped skeleton. Hope this answers all your questions! |
