| The grasslands of central North America are generally divided into three groups, based upon native soil and seasonal rainfall. The taller grasses, like Timothy, do best in the cornbelt (corn is a grass, too!), which includes Iowa, parts of Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and Illinois. This is not to say that Timothy cannot be grown in other parts of the country, it just means that it grows best in the above states. Alfalfa is a legume and grows in any well-draining soil with a neutral pH. It's commonly used as a green-manure cover crop in many parts of the country. Hope this information helps. |
