While on vacation my lawn was taken over by Virginia Button Weed.Today I fertilized the lawn (about 1 acre) with Bonus S. I had places so bad I used Roundup. The lawn is a mixture St.Augustine and Centipede. Any suggestions?

Virginia button-weed is Diodia virginiana, one of those nasty weeds that grabs any opportunity it can get to take over an area. Your method of control, other than digging up each weed, should take care of the immediate problem. The best plan of action is to make your lawn so thick and lush that it crowds out any weed that tries to get a foot hold. Keep your lawn on maintenance schedule that includes regular feeding, mowing and watering. Feed four times each year, applying a total of 4-6 pounds of nitrogen per 1000 square feet of lawn. Make applications in March, June, September and November, and be sure to apply one-inch of water per week to your lawn. You may want to rake out the dead areas and sow new seed, covering lightly with peatmoss to help keep the seeds moist until they germinate.
