My hydrangea bushes are about 5 ft tall. They are not looking good this year. What should I do?

I'm not sure what you mean by not looking too good so I'm guessing that maybe the appearance can be improved by pruning them back. Pruning encourages healthy new growth and since it's early in the season, pruning them back will renew them without reducing their flowering. Prune them back by a third or a half and you should see healthy new growth in a couple of weeks. Best wishes with your hydrangeas.
