If you want low maintenance, stay away from fast growing cherry trees and concentrate on ornamental pear, redbud, white fringetree, dogwood and magnolia. These don't require annual pruning and will thrive if you plant them in full sunshine and water them regularly during the growing season. Best wishes with your landscape.
