My cotoneaster is infested with lace bugs. It was suggested that I treat them with orthene and/or dormant oil. Is this the best treatment and when should they be treated? Should I treat them now or wait until spring? Thanks! |
There are a number of products which will control lace bugs. The label is the final authority on what may or may not be used. I would suggest that if you choose to use an oil product, the lightweight summer or horticultural oils would be a better choice than dormant oil for applications now (during the growing season). I have seen research reports indicating that insecticidal soap is also quite effective against lacebugs. With fall and winter so close at hand, you may choose to not spray anything as the weather will be shutting the lace bugs down for a few months. In spring and summer, keep a close eye out and try to get them in control as soon as they appear. Thanks for the question! |
