I am searching for the indoor lighting requirements (candle power and daily duration of light) for an Edelweiss plant I have started from seed. |
Edelweiss, or Leontopodium alpinum, is a short-lived perennial that grows 4-12 inches high with wooly leaves and small flower heads that appear in June and July. The plant needs excellent drainage. Since it requires full sunshine, you can try to duplicate the condition by using fluorescent tubes and a reflector. Use two 40 watt bulbs, one should be 'cool white' and the other should be 'daylight'. (Or you can use two 'Gro-Lux' type tubes.) Keep the tops of the plants 6-12 inches below the tubes. You'll have to adjust the height of the light source as the plant grows. Keep the lights on 14-16 hours a day and turn them off at night. Good luck with your plant! |
