Two days ago we planted a dwarf red maple. We are worried since the leaves at the top seem to be cut off. We have deer in our area but none of the other shrubs or plants have been touched. We sprayed the area with Liquid Fence. Is the tree in

If your new maple was wilting or dropping leaves, I'd suspect transplant shock, but If the top is gone, deer are probably the culprits. There's no other reason for it. You may want to cage your new plant for the time being - at least until it has a chance to establish well and recover from the inopportune pruning session! You can make a cylinder out of chicken wire to place over the plant. Be sure to keep the top closed, too. Best wishes with your new maple.
