Every year I seem to have a heavy build up of weed near where the sideway meets my lawn. Why? What can I do to prevent this?

I suspect that either water or wind moves the weed seeds to that area and then it stays moist enough to encourage the seeds to sprout. You can apply a pre emergent on the area in the very early spring - before the weeds sprout. Pre emergents keep the seeds from sprouting but won't control existing weeds. I'd kill the weeds either chemically or by digging them out and then sprinkling a pre emergent (such as Preen or other brands, depending upon what else you're growing in the area). Be sure to apply according to label directions.
