We moved into a new house and the backyard is a mess. It has pine needles, fox tails and rocks everywhere. What is the quickest and easiest way to turn it into a nice green lawn.

I'd start by raking out all the debris and removing the rocks. Then spray with a vegetation killer to get rid of the weeds. Once they're dead, rake them out and then rototill the area to break up the soil. You can add some compost and till it in, then level the area, broadcast your seeds and keep the area well watered. Or, you can install sod for an instant lawn. There's a lot of labor involved in reclaiming a backyard but once you do, you'll have a lush oasis. Best wishes with your new lawn.
