The answer depends upon the plant in question. For some, an annual dose of fertilizer in the spring is just fine. Fruit trees, shrubs and some woody perennial plants fall into this category. Annuals and herbacious perennials will be happy with a regular feeding every 4-6 weeks during the growing season. Some fertilizers are time release so they continue to provide nutrients to your plants for 30, 60, or 90 days, depending upon the formulation (check the fertilizer label). Liquid fertilizers do not have any residual effects and can be applied about every 4 weeks. Hope this clarifies things for you. |
