Tomato plants need about an inch of water per week when planted in the ground. Those in containers need to be watered more frequently because the soil dries out quickly. This is probably true in a raised bed, as well. Problems occur with the fruits when the soil moisture content is not consistent - if it gets really wet and then really dry. This can cause cracking of the fruit and/or rotting of the base of the tomato. As long as your plants look healthy and as long as you allow the excess water to drain so the roots are not saturated for extended periods of time, your plants should be fine. If the leaves begin to turn yellow, it indicates you are watering too frequently and you can reduce watering. Best wishes with your tomato plants.
