|It's difficult to diagnose a problem without seeing it! Dead grass in the area of the holes leads me to believe the damage may be caused by grubs feeding and beetles emerging from the soil. Try digging out a shovelful of healthy looking grass, roots and all. Take the grass sample from an area near the damaged lawn. Check the roots and soil for insects. You may very well find the culprits. If you find grubs you can apply a grub control product to your lawn.
