|Both tomatoes and peppers have large root systems and will need a 3 or 5 gallon container per plant. Styrofoam peanuts won't provide the moisture and nutrients the roots need so using them isn't a good idea. Use potting soil to fill your containers. I know it sounds like a lot of potting soil but you can reuse the potting soil over and over again so don't skimp on it.
