I have a 3 ft. x 50 ft. flower bed at a rental property with Lariope only in it. I have trouble with cats in the bed and dry soil. I have also had termites under this bed. I don't want to plant flowers...desire low maintenance. Which would you recommend and why?

Rubber mulch is the by-product of recycled tires. It's a good way to recycle but I'm not sure I'd use the product. It will last forever, but there's some concern it might leach zinc and other chemicals into the ground (probably keep termites away, though). Marble chips will also last forever, won't leach, and come in more colors. Of the two products, the marble is the most natural and organic. So, I vote for marble chips.
