Use a good grade of potting soil for your topsy turvy containers. It hold moisture well and will provide some nutrients to the roots of your plants. Because containerized plants need to be watered more frequently, and because frequent watering will leach nutrients from the soil, try feeding every 2 weeks with a half strength dilution of Miracle Gro or other water soluable fertilizer. This will provide a constant source of nutrients to your plants and help keep them green. Best wishes with your tomatoes and cucumbers.
