When we bought our house last summer there was this tall plant with purple flowers next to the front porch. It died back over the winter. Now I need to know what it is, and if it's annual or perennial, so I know if I should plant something in the now empty space. Here is a link to the photo (hopefully this one works):

The plant in the photo is Ruellia, also called Mexican Petunia. It is a perennial and should come back every spring. Pruning on an annual basis will keep it under control. Without pruning it can get quite large. Enjoy your new landscape!
