|Yellowing leaves can indicate overwatering but discolored, wet and sticky leaves indicate insect feeding. Check the undersides of the leaves and you'll probably find scale or mealybug insects. These pests suck the fluids from the tissues and exude a sticky substance called honeydew. A large population can damage a plant in a hurry so controlling the pests is really important. If you find scale insects or mealybugs on your palm, superior horticultural oil is one way to control them. It's a highly refined oil spray that will suffocate the insects without harming your palm. Be sure to apply according to label directions.
