we have wild ajuga in our lawn--regular weed & feed doesn't seem to get rid of it. How can we kill it without killing the grass? |
Your first defense should be to bag your lawn clippings. If you mow without bagging, any leaves or stems left on the turf can potentially grow into new plant. Hand digging, roots and all is most effective. If you're really desperate you can apply glyphosate (Round Up, etc.). Glyphosate is a vegetation killer so it will kill any grass you get the product on. However, if you allow the ajuga to grow tall enough to be above the level of the grass you can carefully paint the weed killer directly on the stems of the ajuga. It will kill the ajuga down to its roots but because it doesn't move in the soil, your grass will be safe. Wish there were an easier way to eradicate this weed! |
