|Your tree needs to be trained to a stake to keep it upright. Choose a stake slightly taller than you want the upright trunk to be and tie your spruce up, all along the trunk to keep it upright. When it reaches the top of the stake it will sprawl outward and spreads along the ground almost like the long elegant train of a lady's gown. It can reach ten feet across, so be sure to allow it plenty of room. You can remove the stake when the upright trunk is thick enough to support the top of the plant.
