Organic material is made up of living organisms such as plants and animals, dead plants and animals, and nutrients that have come from decomposed plants and animals.
Compost is basically decomposed plant material and it is considered an organic material. If you're amending your garden soil, you can use compost, aged manure, peat moss, leaf mold or straw - anything that was once alive and is partially or fully decomposed. Hope this answers your question!
