I live in Palos Heights, Illinois and have areas in my yard that clover has overtaken my grass. I am hesitant to use herbicides as I have a 2 year old and 2 dogs that love playing in the grass. If there a homemade recipe I can use to kill clover? Or a organic solution I can use, so I don't have to worry about chemicals hurting my family. Thank you!

Hand digging the clover is the safest method of eradicating the weed but you might also consider killing it off with boiling water or boiling vinegar. The problem associated with this is that whatever the boiling liquid touches will also be killed so you'll end up with dead blotches on your lawn (which will need to be dug and and repaired). My solution is to apply a corn gluten based pre emergent weed control product. Corn gluten is a byproduct of processing corn products and is safe to use on lawns and near children and pets. Concern Weed Prevention Plus, Nature?s Green, Tupersan, Corn Weed Blocker, Weed Ban, Dyna weed, Barricade, and Dimension are all corn gluten meal based weed control products. Check them out at your local Home Depot. Best wishes with your lawn!
