|If I cross plant two different types of pepper seeds, what variety will I get? I planted a Thai pepper seed with a Cayenne seed, which dominate seed will take over and what will my end result be? In the event this cross planting works, what are the feasabilty of doing this with other seeds?|
|If you plant seed from two varieties of peppers, you will get plants that are each true to their type. In this case, your plants will be either Thai or Cayenne pepper plants. If however you save the seeds from the fruits of those plants which grew in a mixed planting, you may find that some crossing will occur and the second generation of plants will not all exactly resemble one or the other parent.
I have planted peppers that crossed, producing a "blended" type unlike either parent. I can also say however, that not all types are compatible (capable of crossing), in which case the second generation will just resemble the variety the seed came from.
Thanks for the question!
