Leyland Cypress Pruning - Knowledgebase Question

Mine (8) are 40-50 ft tall. Wud like to prune off 33-50%. What say you?

Sounds like a pretty severe haircut to me! Pruning them back by that much will surely stress them. It would be better for the plants to be reduced in size over a 2-3 year period than to have everything whacked back all at once. Such severe pruning will expose foliage and branches that have been shaded to full sunshine, which will cause sunburn and death of the foliage. If you reduce the size by a quarter this spring and a quarter next spring, your cypresses will have a better chance of recovering from the pruning session. good luck with your project!
