What you describe is technically called guttation. It's a normal process where the plant is trying to get rid of excess moisture so it squeezes it out of natural openings in the leaves. It's more likely to happen if you water your plant in the evening rather than in the morning when it's actively growing. In any event, it's isn't going to hurt your plant - it just looks weird!
