Butterfly bushes are easy to grow in full sunshine, in well draining soils. To plant, dig a hole as deep and slightly wider than the nursery container. Your goal is to have the plant sitting at the same soil depth as it was growing in the container. When you're satisfied that the depth of the hole is right, unpot your butterfly bush by laying the pot on its side and coaxing out the plant. Set the plant in the planting hole and fill in around the edges, then tamp down the soil. Water your plant well after planting and water deeply once or twice a week. Enjoy your new plant!
