after the flowers have bloomed should I cut of the head now or not at all?

Azaleas don't need to be deadheaded but you can if you want. Instead of pruning them off, just snap the spent flower head off the plant. This is a quick process - just grab the green part directly beneath the flower petals and snap it off the plant.
