The best way to determine whether or not your tomatoes need water is to stick your finger down into the soil. If it is dry an inch below the surface, it's time to water. If it is moist, you can wait another few days. When you do water, apply it slowly so it has a chance to soak in and wet the entire root mass. If your tomatoes are in a container rather than in the ground, you should water when the potting soil is dry one-half inch below the surface. Once in a while it's good to immerse the pot in a larger container of water. This will drive out any air pockets that might form around the roots. Leave it for about 10 minutes then take it out and let it drain. Hope this answers your question!
