I have had termites in my home in the past and am reluctant to put mulch in the veg garden,2ft from house. What kind of mulch is least likly to draw them near the house. Neighbors have termites and DO NOT treat so they are in the area. Thank you, Charlene

Straw or pine needles are least likely to attract termites. Or, you can lay several thicknesses of newspaper over the bare soil between the plants to suppress weeds. Plan on digging it into the soil in mid summer and replacing it with fresh layers. As long as you either remove the newspapers or dig them into the soil every 6 weeks or so, you'll discourage any termites that might want to make a home in them. If you'd rather not deal with the extra work, use straw or pine needles.
