|I recently planted string bean seedlings in my garden. They are very long and thin so they are laying on the ground. How do they grow? and is there something I should do to help them along? are they climbers?

|String beans are climbing plants and will need some support so they can climb upwards. You can set a trellis behind the plants so they can climb up or you can make a teepee out of 3 stakes or bamboo sticks. Space the stakes an equal distance apart on the outside of the plant and then tie the 3 sticks together at the top to make a teepee. The beans will happily climb up the teepee. Best wishes with your beans.
