I just purchased 2 erica heather plants. Are they an annual or perennial? Will the purple color remain all summer? I live in the Chicagoland area. Thank you, Ann

Heather is rated hardy in gardening zones 4-8; you're in zone 6 so it should be a perennial in your garden. My heather blooms 3-4 times a year. To get the most flowers from yours, shear them back after the flowers fade (cut just below the flower spike) and they'll bloom again (and again as long as you shear them back each time they flower). Enjoy your new plants!
