Milkweed - Knowledgebase Question

I had milkweed in several places in my yard because it is the host plant for monarch butterflies which I love to encourage. However the only one that came back was in full sun - the others were in afternoon sun. Could this be the reason? Are there any particular soil conditions needed? Thanks!

Full sun and well drained soils are what milkweed prefers so I suspect that those that died just didn't get the right exposure to sunshine. I'd find a sunnier spot in the garden - I'm sure the plants and the butterflies will appreciate it. Enjoy your garden!
