Dandelions spread hundreds of seeds so the first strategy is to dig them out or mow them down before they develop flowers and seedheads. Since they are broadleaf weeds you can spot treat them with a product containing the herbicide 2,4-D. There are even specially formulated dandelion killers. You just spray and it kills the weed, roots and all. Best wishes with your project.
