The most eco-friendly way to control dandelions is to dig them out, roots and all. The next in line is vinegar. BurnOut II Organic Weed & Grass Killer is a vinegar based product but it will kill anything it touches so if dandelions are in your lawn, it will leave some dead grass wherever you apply the product. About the only other way to control them is to spot treat with a dandelion killer that contains 2,4-D. This is a broadleaf weed killer that won't harm your grass but will kill the dandelions. If you carefully spot treat rather than treating your whole lawn, there will be much less runoff to the lake. Best wishes with your eradication project!
