We have recently planted a Hydrangea Macrophylla and it seems to be doing well but the large green leaves are being eaten. What might be the cause of this problem and can I eliminate it.

It's easier to recommend a control when we know what pest is causing the damage. Caterpillars can be controlled with Dipel or Thuricide. It only targets caterpillars. Beetles can be controlled with a Permethrin based insecticide such as Bonide?s Total Pest Control. Whichever you use, be sure to apply according to label directions. Best wishes with your hydrangea.
