I have a small areanext to the back deck that I would like to plant something taller (not flowers)as sort of a divider from the neighbors yard. Since it is next to the house and under the top deck, there is not much sunlight there. What would you suggest to plant.

I'd plant an emerald green arborvitae in the area. Thuja occidentalis 'Holmstrup' is a semi-dwarf with pyramidal form. It can grow 10' tall in 10 years but if you prune it back every year or two you can keep it shorter. It's extremely hardy and I think it will grow well in the site you describe.
