I have a flowering japanese lilac that started getting leaves and then they all dried up.It has been beautiful the last few years. Even though it has no leaves if I scratch the bark on the branches it is still green .Is there any hope for this tree? thank you

Your lilac either suffered from a cold snap or is dealing with a water stress issue - too much or too little water. If the branches are still green, there's always hope. Only time will tell, though. Give your lilac the rest of the spring to leaf out again. I'll cross my fingers for you!
