I don't think the yellowing leaves are anything to be alarmed about. Gardenias are evergreen plants but eventually they drop their oldest leaves and sprout healthy new ones. The oldest leaves are the innermost and lowest leaves on the plant and you should expect to see this happening every yeear with your gardenia. Transplant stress can also cause some of the leaves to yellow and drop. As soon as the plant adjusts to its new home, it will perk up and stop dropping so many leaves. About the only other common cause for yellowing and dropping leaves is overwatering. I think your plant will recover soon - just give it a few more weeks to adjust. Enjoy your new plant!
