Common lilacs grow fast but with a 6" start, it will take at least 5 years for them to grow into substantial sized shrubs. More mature Lilacs are readily available in garden centers and they are usually reasonably priced - and ready to bloom. Or, if you have a gardening friend with lilacs you can dig out a sucker and replant it in your yard. Best wishes with your new lilacs.
