|Spring is a good time to dig and divide your hostas. I know the root systems can intertwine and become one solid mass so it won't be easy to divide them. Start by cutting through the mass with a shovel or even a pruning saw so you have two pieces of root mass. Then try to cut each half into two or more divisions. As long as the divisions have both leaves and roots, they will grow into new plants. Best wishes with your project!
