hey there.. i've read in many articles that verbena plants can be grown from clipping? if so.. would u tell me how to do that? i'd love to try!!.. and also is there a process where i can do the same with my roses? i'd be grateful for your expert answers. Thank you |
You can root verbena clippings. Just dip the cut end in rooting hormone and set them in a container filled with moistened potting soil (or directly in the ground). They should develop roots within a few weeks. Roses can be a little more difficult to root, but you can use the same process. Take a 4-6" long tip cutting from a stem that has not produced flowers. Strip off the lower leaves, dip the cut end in rooting hormone and set your cuttings into a container filled with moistened potting soil. Place 3-4 sticks on the inside of the container against the rim and drape plastic wrap or a plastic bag over the top. You're essentially making a little greenhouse to keep the cuttings from drying out too quickly. Don't secure the plastic - you still want a little fresh air to circulate around the cuttings. Set the container outdoors in a shady spot and check periodically for watering needs. Raise the plastic every few days to allow fresh air to enter. The cuttings should root in 3-4 weeks. You'll know they've rooted when they develop new leaves. At that time remove the plastic greenhouse and give them a little more time to grow 2-3 new leaves. By then the roots will be healthy enough to transplant your new little starts into the garden or into their own little pots. When they've settled into their new homes, gradually expose them to more and more sunshine until they are out in the sun all day long. Best wishes with your project! |
