I would like to change the color of my mulch..can I put the new mulch on top of the old? Also I inherited flower beds that has white marble chips adjacent to the mulched beds. There is plastic under the marble. Some mulch is now mixed in with the marble... are there any tricks to remove the mulch? I llike the marble but the beds look messy now.

You can spread fresh mulch over the exisiting mulch. As for the rock chips, I'd remove the whole mess, plastic, marble chips and mulch. With any luck you can rake it all into a pile and then fold the plastic over the pile and haul it all out of the garden. You can replace the plastic with a weed barrier landscape fabric if weeds are a problem. The weed barrier has tiny holes to allow water to penetrate the soil and to encourage good air circulation which will help keep your soil healthy and active. You can place a mulch of compost, bark nuggets, etc. over the weed barrier to keep your beds looking clean and attractive. Best wishes with your project!
