Hi! I have a dog that's fond of digging up my beautiful flowers every year. I've tried everything - from using small fencing to keep him out to punishing him - but nothing works! He keeps digging up my flowers, which is both frustrating and a loss of a huge investment. Is there anything I can sprinkle in the soil to keep him from digging that will be safe for both him and the flowers?

I'm afraid training is the best solution. Here's what I did: roll out the hose and fit a sprinkler on the end. When the dog goes to investigate the area, turn on the sprinkler. In this way the sprinkler is deterring the dog, rather than you deterring him. The added bonus of letting the sprinkler do the work for you is that many dogs will learn not to dig while you are present but will happily dig away when you are away from home. The sprinkler causes the dog to think that the actual garden is chastising him instead of you because he does not realize that you were involved at the tap end! Hope it works for you.
