Algae will grow if the soil remains moist, if it's compacted and/or acidic, and if there's not a lot of sunlight. You can rake the soil to reduce compaction and to help it dry out a little faster after a rainfall. You can spread lime or spray a lime-based algae or moss killer on the algae to kill it off. Eventually you'll need to reapply because it will probably grow back again. Best wishes with your landscape.
