the gardenias in our area are so beautiful for just a few days and then the flowers all turn dark brown. Why? The bushes are healthy looking.

Heavy rain can shortened the life of your blooms, as can overhead watering, but typically even pest-free flowers live only two or three days. It's sad - but the good news is that gardenias usually produce lots and lots of flowers so there's almost always fresh new flowers to replace the aging ones. Enjoy your gardenia!
