We have numerous chipmunks running over our stone walls and drilling holes in our lawn, Since they have devoured our impatiens we no longer plant them. We would like to protect our lawn, is there a way to discourage chipmunks without harming them?

I wish there were an easy solution to the problem! Trapping is the most practical method of eliminating chipmunks in most home situations. Live-catch wire-mesh traps or common rat snap traps can be used to catch chipmunks. Common live-trap models include the Tomahawk (Nos. 102, 201) and Havahart (Nos. 0745, 1020, 1025) traps. Here's a website with more information about the pesky critters: You might also check with your local cooperative extension office for more suggestions.
