We purchased a Echo lawn trimmer from Home Depot last year, and while we like the machine, we need some advice on how to use it around flower beds and trees. Thank you.

In a case like this, practice makes perfect. The only caution here is to start far away from your tree and go slow. Almost like sneaking up on the weeds. You can always get closer, but you can't replace damaged bark on your trees! First, check the bottom of the weed eater before starting to see what direction to trim in. Most weed eaters have a direction arrow. Cut going in the direction the weed eater shows to keep from throwing the trimmings back toward you. Keep the string head about 2 to 3 inches off the ground, and sweep the machine side to side in a steady motion parallel to the ground. Tilt the trimmer approximately 30 degrees for trimming along walkways, driveways, and curbs. Once you get the hang of it, using your lawn trimmer will be a snap.
