I'd vote for coffee grounds in the garden but not rusty nails! Coffee grounds will contribute a tiny amount of nitrogen but will also serve to fluff the soil up a bit, just as any organic matter might. Rusty nails - well, the minerals they might contribute won't be worth the hassle of accidentally grabbing a sharp point when you're working the garden soil in the years to come. I'd keep them out of the bed and concentrate on using compost or aged manure to provide the necessary nutrients to your plants and the bulk your soil needs to drain well. Enjoy your garden!
