I tried writing a message earlier but I got no feedback whether or not it actually was received. I would like to know when is the best time to aerate a lawn consisting of fescue grass. I was told by TruGreen that I would be wasting time and money if I tried now as summer kicks in and wait until fall. I have large patches of compacted clay soil. What can I do?

Because the usual practice is to overseed after aerating, aerating is usually done in the spring or in the fall when the weather is cool and grass seeds are quick to sprout. Waiting until fall to aerate is a good idea in your gardening region. About the only way to green up your lawn now is to feed, mow and water on a regular schedule.
